The Northern-centric Booths Supermarkets will stock Poon’s Chilli Vinegar Dressing and Premium First Extract Soy Sauce while Ocado will additionally list Poon’s WO Sauce and its Extraordinary Chilli Oil.
The move follows the launch of a production and retail space in South London food production and distribution hub Spa Terminus.
The site serves as a hub for wholesale trading and production activities, including the preparation, bottling and labelling of the venerable brand’s sauces and dressings but will soon be open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays selling Poon’s famed wontons.
Amy Poon – the daughter of Bill Poon who founded the group in 1973 in Chinatown and later attracted a Michelin star for his cooking at the group’s Covent Garden site - is understood to be looking to bring the Poon’s brand back as a restaurant having tested the water in 2018 with a pop-up in Clerkenwell.
Following this, Amy developed spin-off concept Wontoneria which launched as a pop-up at Stevie Parle’s JOY at Portobello in 2021 before taking up a residency at Carousel’s incubator space No. 23 Charlotte Street in 2023.
The business had seven location in its 1980s heyday, including a restaurant in Switzerland, but wound down its operations in the early 2000s as Bill retired.
