Nigerian restaurant Chuku’s is launching a fundraise to help raise money for a second site in the capital.

Siblings Ifeyinwa and Emeka Frederick are looking to raise £500,000 to open a new central London restaurant next year.

Back in 2019 the pair used crowdfunding to help launch their first restaurant, a 35-cover site on Tottenham High Road in London in 2020, having raised more than £36,000.

The new site will be larger and in a more central location to ‘give even more Londoners the opportunity to discover Nigerian cuisine for themselves’ the pair say.

Billed as ‘the world’s first Nigerian tapas restaurant’, Chuku’s was founded in 2016 and initially ran pop-ups at residences across London including Spitalfields’ Canvas café and Nest in Hackney before finding permanent digs.

It serves authentic cuisine against a backdrop of Nigerian afrobeats and contemporary art.

Since its launch, Chuku’s has served more than 50,000 diners and last year was awarded a $10,000 grant by BeyGOOD, the charity founded by Beyoncé.
