Chef Chris Eden to leave Devon's Gidleigh Park
Andrew Brownsword Hotels has announced that Chris Eden is to leave its Devon country house hotel Gidleigh Park later this year.

Appointed executive head chef at Gidleigh Park in 2019, Eden reclaimed the Michelin star the Chagford property lost in 2019 following the departure of head chef Chris Simpson in 2023 and reclaimed it in the most recent edition of the guide.

Prior to Gidleigh Park - which held two stars while the kitchen was under the direction of Michael Caines up until 2016 - Eden was head chef of Cornwall’s Driftwood where he attracted a star in 2012 and retained it until 2019 before moving across the county border to Devon.

“Continuing to live in Cornwall, but heading up the prestigious kitchens at Gidleigh Park has been challenging, but an experience that I will treasure,” Eden says. It’s now time to spend more time nearer my family, and I thank all the team for a brilliant five years together”.

Gidleigh Park regional general manager Simon Franksadded: “Chris is a champion of local producers and guests have loved the produce-led ethos that he has brought to the kitchens of Gidleigh Park.  A big character around the hotel and restaurant, we will miss his smile and company, and wish him all the best in his future career”.

Eden will leave Gidleigh Park in autumn this year. Recruitment is in progress for his replacement.
