Set for September and billed as the Paskin’s flagship, The Barbary Notting Hill follows the success of the original The Barbary in Covent Garden’s Neal’s Yard.
Housed in a Grade II-listed building on the corner of Westbourne Grove and Chepstow Road, the 75-cover restaurant will feature a take on the popular Neal’s Yard kitchen counter, in addition to an open-plan dining room and a cocktail bar.
Designed by Archer Humphryes, the interiors will provide an ‘evocative experience’, enhanced throughout with natural finishes, rich textures and warm lighting.
In keeping with the first site, the new restaurant will take its culinary cues from the cuisines and countries of the Barbary Coast, from Southern Europe to Northern Africa.
Dishes will include house-made merguez, seasonal flatbreads, crispy pork belly skewers, aubergine ajo blanco and fried fish collar, and to finish, highlight desserts will feature fire-baked basbousa and The Barbary’s famed hashcake.
The kitchen will be led by head chef Daniel Alt and group development chef Aika Levins, who was shortlisted as a Chef to Watch at Restaurant National Restaurant Awards early this year.
The wine list will feature an ‘extensive and diverse ‘selection of wines from both classic and emerging regions, and sustainable producers. The 250-strong list will include an exclusive reserve selection, showcasing iconic and sought-after wines including rare bottles of Krug, Salon, DRC and first growth Bordeaux such as Latour, Petrus, and Y’Quem.
“The Barbary Notting Hill is a chance for us to bring some of our bigger ideas to life – an expanded dining space and a wider menu offering. Mirroring that same familiarity and warmth we know The Barbary (Neal’s Yard) guests have come to expect from us, we really want to embed ourselves as a neighbourhood haven in West London,” says Layo.
Zoë added: “A nod to the coastal restaurants we fell in love with on our travels, we wanted The Barbary Notting Hill to exude the same implicit charm, warmth and confidence – underpinned by a seasonal menu of quality ingredients, cooked simply but well.”
Founded in 1995, Studio Paskin's portfolio also includes The Palomar, Evelyn’s Table, The Mulwray, The Blue Posts, The Barbary Next Door and Gleneagles Townhouse in Edinburgh, which is run in collaboration with hotel giant Ennismore.
