Pizza Express is looking to grow its presence in the retail space with the opening a new concept within Tesco stores.

The casual dining group’s website has open vacancies for a ‘Pizza Express Pod’ at the Tesco Extra store in Bursledon, Southampton, Restaurant’s sister title MCA has reported.

Describing it as an ‘exciting new concept’, the restaurant group has posted vacancies for a site manager, supervisor and team member.

It is understood the concept will be a smaller format, food-to-go type offering compared to a typical full-service Pizza Express restaurant.

In May Pizza Express opened its first restaurant within a UK airport at London Gatwick’s South Terminal, which offers a breakfast menu alongside its traditional pizza range.

“Whilst we have almost 360 restaurants across the UK & Ireland, we know there are many people in towns and cities across the country who want to enjoy their favourite Pizza Express pizza and dough balls. As such, we are always looking at new and innovative ideas to make that happen – like our recent opening at Gatwick airport,” a Pizza Express spokesperson told MCA.

“We are also working on other early-stage concepts to get our proper pizza to the planet, both here in the UK and around the world and we look forward to sharing more details later in 2024. Watch this space.”
