Hammersmith stalwart The River Café will launch a more casual offshoot this week.

Mere steps away within Thames Wharf Studios, The River Café Cafe will offer Italian-style breakfasts in the morning with options including brioche and cakes and fresh fruit.

Throughout the day the Rainville Road venture will offer plates of prosciutto and mozzarella, seasonal vegetables such as zucchini and grilled peppers in the summer and roasted pumpkin, squash, and borlotti beans in the winter.

River Café desserts will be served all day, while pastries, ice creams, Italian hot chocolate, teas and coffees will be available to take away.

In the evening, aperitivos, non-alcoholic cocktails, and wines by the glass will be served with homemade crisps and Italian olives.

The River Café Cafe is billed as the first new opening for The River Café since it was founded by Ruth Rogers and Rose Gray in 1987 on the north bank of the Thames.

Having initially opened as a staff canteen, the restaurant slowly emerged as one of the standout restaurants in London, earning its Michelin star in 1997.
