Restaurant Eats Out: In and around The City

Restaurant took a group of chefs and operators to check out three of the hottest places to eat in and around The City of London.

Pearly Queen

Chef Tom Brown’s follow up to his Michelin-starred Cornerstone restaurant is focused on oysters and tips its mother of pearl-decorated hat to London’s Pearly Queens (and Kings). Pearly Queen occupies a handsome corner site and comprises an upstairs that references the aesthetic of an East End boozer and a more intimate downstairs area. Key dishes include Brown’s cuttlefish lasagne and the already Insta-famous buffalo oysters.

Crispin

Named after the street on which it can be found, Crispin opened in 2018 and taps into the capital’s seemingly insatiable appetite for Mediterranean-inspired small plates paired with low intervention wines with funky labels. The Spitalfields restaurant’s success has seen owner Dominic Hamdy create a mini empire, with recent launches including Clapham’s Crispin at Studio Voltaire and Bistro Freddie, which is located just up the road. 

Los Mochis London City 

Billed as Tokyo-meets-Tulum, Los Mochis London City is Thesleff Group’s follow up to its original Los Mochis restaurant in Notting Hill. Occupying the 9th floor rooftop of 100 Liverpool Street, it’s far (far) bigger boasting a 14,000sq ft restaurant and 3,000sq ft terrace. As with its smaller West London sibling, the menu is a contemporary blend of Japanese and Mexican cooking that majors on tacos, sushi, salads and robata-cooked dishes.
