Pizza Express will open its first restaurant within a UK airport later this month at London Gatwick’s South Terminal.

The group is working with franchise partner Airport Retail Enterprises for the opening, which is slated for Monday 20 May.

“We’re incredibly excited to be opening Pizza Express at London Gatwick, which is a gateway to many destinations across the world, including some of our own international markets,” says Chris Holmes, Pizza Express chief development officer.

“Our customers want to enjoy their favourite brand everywhere and at any time, so opening sites across travel hubs - of which Gatwick is set to be the first airport location - provides even more opportunities for our customers to connect with us.”

Pizza Express London Gatwick will become the only restaurant in the group’s UK estate to serve a breakfast menu, which will be available from 3:30am to 11am daily.

Dishes will include an Italian bacon and egg pizza with pancetta; a ‘full works’ fry up; and dough balls with jam.

Pizza Express’ full menu of pizzas, calzones, salads, pastas and desserts will be served from 11am each day.

“As an industry leading innovator, we created a menu that offers up something fresh and different, appealing to diners around the clock,” adds Holmes.

“We all know the holiday starts from the moment you arrive at the airport, and from early morning breakfasts to late night dinners, there’s nowhere better to celebrate that holiday feeling than at Pizza Express London Gatwick.”

It’s not the first time Pizza Express has served a breakfast menu, having first tested the idea back in 2010.

The group’s short-lived grab-and-go brand Za also featured a breakfast offering that included a bacon-filled piadina, topped porridges, and egg pots.
