Luke French and Stacey Sherwood-French are relocating their Sheffield fine dining restaurant Jöro to a site within the Oughtibridge Paper Mill development.

The relocated restaurant will join the couple’s forthcoming bar, terrace and BBQ kitchen concept, which is due to open at the development later this year.

The pair opened Scandinavian restaurant Jöro in a shipping container in Krynkl in Kelham Island, Sheffield, in 2016. This was followed by the launch of eastern Asian street food brand Konjö in 2019, which currently has a site at the city’s Cutlery Works food hall, and the opening of House of Jöro, a boutique hotel close to their flagship, in 2021.

The pair made the announcement in response to a glowing review of Jöro by Giles Coren in The Times.

“Over the last 7 years since we opened our little shipping container restaurant, we never thought that we would achieve what we have. Day in day out we strive to be better, to develop and to improve. So a review like this means the world to everyone that makes it happen,” they said.

“As mentioned in the review, alongside our already announced bar, terrace & bbq kitchen - we will also be moving Jöro to be a part of our project at Oughtibridge Mill later this year.

“The restaurant will be given its new and deserved home so we can continue to improve, develop and offer the best experiences. As well as giving our team the space to grow and develop with us too.”

The couple announced back in September 2022 that they would be heading to Oughtibridge Paper Mill to open ‘grocerant’ - a hybrid restaurant and grocery at the 150-year-old mill development site. The new project is understood to comprise two bars and all-day dining terrace and outdoor kitchen with a menu centred on live-fire cooking.

They will retain the original Jöro siite, which will become a Konjö.

Jöro is currently ranked number 92 in the list of the UK’s Top 100 Restaurants and is known for its multi-course menus of dishes that have an international feel to them, with flavours from Asia, South America and China using ingredients sourced closer to home.
