Coming ahead of the presentation of the Michelin Guide 2024 next week, restaurants including Higher Ground in Manchester (pictured), Harneet Baweja’s Empire Empire in London’s Notting Hill, and Adam Handling’s Windsor gastropub The Loch & The Tyne are among those to receive a Bib this year, which is awarded to restaurants 'offering particularly good quality, good value cooking'.
Nineteen of the 20 restaurants to receive a Bib Gourmand this year are new additions to the Guide.
There’s a noticeable emphasis on pub dining on this year’s list of new Bib Gourmands with The Reindeer in Hoveringham, The Three Horseshoes in Fordham and The Bull in Charlbury all recognised.
In London, Crouch End’s Les 2 Garçons received a Bib. While in the south, both Lewes restaurant Dill and Brighton’s Palmito were also awarded one.
Five restaurants in the Republic of Ireland have been recognised with a Bib Gourmand this year, including three in Dublin: La Gordita, Amy Austin, and Lottie’s. Meanwhile, in Northern Ireland, Belfast restaurant Home has regained its Bib Gourmand, with Michelin praising ‘a new chef and some terrific produce’.
Both Wales and Scotland received a single new Bib Gourmand each with Penarth’s Touring Club and Edinburgh’s Tipo both recognised.
“It is a joy to see 20 restaurants newly awarded the Bib Gourmand in the 2024 edition of The Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland,” says Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of The Michelin Guide
“These are establishments that deserve recognition for their continued commitment to offering affordable, delicious cooking.
“The generosity and value for money they offer is wonderful to see during these challenging economic times for the restaurant industry.”
At the time of writing, it is not known how many Bib Gourmand restaurants in total will feature in the 2024 Guide, although Restaurant has contacted Michelin for clarification.
The full online listings for the 2023 Bib Gourmand restaurants will be updated on Monday evening (5 February) following the Great Britain & Ireland 2023 Michelin Guide Ceremony, when all of the new Michelin Stars, Green Stars and Special Awards will be announced.
