Barburrito closes one of its Glasgow sites

The group's three-storey Hope Street site has closed leaving one remaining site in Glasgow, on Queen Street.

TRG bought the fast-casual Mexican chain​​ for £7m in July 2022 when it had 16 sites  with plans to double the number of venues over the next four years. After a number of closures, including the Glasgow restaurant, it now operates 13 sites across the UK.

At the time, TRG said that there was ‘significant scope’ to further develop and expand the burrito brand, particularly in the south of England, where the brand had only a limited presence.

Barburrito was founded in Manchester by Morgan Davies and Paul Kilpatrick in 2005 and was described by TRG as being ‘well aligned with consumer trends including healthy eating, convenience, and customisable cuisine’ at the time of its purchase. It currently operates sites in Cardiff, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Sheffield, Nottingham and London as well as Manchester, where it has five restaurants.

In 2020 the brand underwent a restructure​​ that saw it close three sites - two in Scotland and one in Manchester - and a received a cash injection.
