Chef Ruth Hansom is to launch a modern British restaurant and wine bar under her own name in partnership with her husband Mark Hansom-Rigby in Bedale, North Yorkshire.

Hansom, who became the first ever female winner of Young National Chef of the Year (YNCOTY) back in 2017, describes the restaurant as offering ‘an Epicurean adventure of luxury and provenance’.

It will serve a ‘contemporary tasting menu’, although dish details are yet to be confirmed.

The announcement comes after Hansom spent six months in residency as executive chef at the historic Samuel’s Restaurant at Swinton Park hotel in Masham, North Yorkshire.

Hansom, who spent five years cooking at The Ritz early in her career, has long harboured an ambition to open a British-focused fine dining restaurant.

Back in 2018 she appeared on BBC TV show My Million Pound Menu alongside sommelier Emily Lambert and received a £750,000 - £1m investment from chef Atul Kochhar towards the opening of their British fine dining concept called Epoch.

After the show the pair ran a series of pop-ups and private dinners, but it was later announced that permanent plans for Epoch would not be going ahead.

In subsequent years, Hansom has led the kitchen at London gastropub The Princess of Shoreditch.

She is also chef partner with BaxterStorey where she is supporting the hospitality provider in inspiring the next generation of women in hospitality.
