Edinburgh-based Neapolitan pizza brand Matto will launch its third and largest site later this month in the Scottish capital’s Newington neighbourhood on the southside of the city.

The new restaurant on Newington Road will hold 66 covers and serve a menu of Neapolitan-style pizzas alongside a selection of 'authentic' Italian starters and desserts.

Matto launched its first site, a takeaway hub on Cadzow Place, in September 2020, and opened its first dedicated restaurant the following year in Morningside.

The brand uses a 'state-of-the-art' wood-fired oven that cooks the pizzas, which are made with a slow-rise 00 flour dough, in 60 seconds.

With a name which means ‘crazy’ in Italian, Matto’s menu features some creatively eccentric pizza toppings including one with truffle cream, smoked cheese, mushrooms and rocket.

Other options, meanwhile, include a tomato base pizza with mozzarella, spianata, ‘nduja, ricotta, basil and black pepper; and a white base pizza with provolone cheese, salamino Toscano, friarielli and chilli flakes.

Wines across all three sites are supplied by Bellissimo Vino Edinburgh.

The new site will be Matto’s largest location to date and boast vintage-style interiors such as intricate wallpaper designs with green, pink and gold accents throughout.
