Sven-Hanson Britt joins Monica Galetti’s Mere as head chef
The appointment was announced on Mere’s Instagram account.
It read: “Exciting news! Sven-Hanson has joined Monica at Mere as our head chef.
“They have been busy brainstorming exciting new dishes inspired from the Pacific Islands together!”
Britt, a finalist of BBC’s MasterChef: The Professionals in 2014 and the winner of MasterChef the Professionals: The Rematch 2019, confirmed the closure his Oxeye restaurant in London’s Nine Elms back in July.
The tasting menu-only restaurant launched in October 2021 having previously been in development for close to a decade, and was designed to be a ‘true celebration of the incredible bounty of produce found on the British Isles’.
Reflecting on the closure at the time, Britt said he would ‘forever be grateful’ for the hard work of his team, adding that he was ‘absolutely confident the guests that dined at Oxeye received the best hospitality imaginable and some of the best food in London’.
“The closure weighs heavy on my shoulders and in my heart. And it will for sometime.
“I poured my whole heart into that space and I’m so, so grateful to all those that came through the doors - both sides of the pass.”
Monica and David Galetti launched Mere in 2017. The restaurant’s food is based on Galetti’s classic French cooking background honed during her years as senior sous chef at Le Gavroche in Mayfair, while also drawing on her Samoan heritage and her time living in New Zealand, where she moved when she was eight years old.
Mere previously has previously featured twice on the National Restaurant Awards top 100 list.
