Sustainably-minded North Somerset fine dining restaurant The Ethicurean will close its doors in October after 13 years.

Co-owner Matthew Pennington - who is now based in Scotland - and chef co-owner Mark McCabe say that they are keen to ‘embrace some exciting new projects’ and that the ‘time is right to let go’ of the venue, which is based near Wrington about half an hour’s drive south west of Bristol.

Founded by Pennington in 2008, The Ethicurean has spent over a decade 'celebrating sustainable British dining, working with growers, makers and suppliers' who have shared Pennington and McCabe’s vision for ‘a gentle footprint on the planet and responsible practices’.

The restaurant’s dedication to ethical practices saw it awarded a Michelin Green star in 2022 and a plethora of other industry awards for their commitment to sustainability.

The Ethicurean says it is committed to going out with a bang and celebrating the season end in style, with a number of events planned for the summer that will be announced in due course.

“What a decade and a bit it has been! We are beyond grateful to each and every one of our gorgeous customers for their loyalty, friendship and support over the years. It has been an incredible journey and an overwhelmingly enjoyable one,” says Pennington.

“To our staff, past and present, all wonderful characters, you helped to shape the restaurant and make it the very warm and welcoming place it is and enabled us to bring our vision to life for customers - thank you.”

Bookings are now open until the end of September for The Full Experience, Saturday, and Sunday Lunch and Wednesday Suppers.
