Now in its ninth year, the WSC is the only event that shines the spotlight on the very best steaks, producers and suppliers across the globe as judged by a tasting panel of experts from all over the world. The 2023 launch is accompanied by a distinct new look and digital strategy, supported by a brand new website.
Beef and steak producers, wholesalers and retailers have until Monday 10th July to enter the 2023 competition, which will be judged in September at Vlees & Co Steak Restaurant in Amsterdam. All entries are assessed by a panel of more than 50 independent judges with the best performing steaks awarded much coveted gold, silver or bronze medals.
Categories open for entry this year are Fillet, Sirloin and Ribeye and new category Wagyu. New for 2023, all Gold medal winning steaks automatically qualify for the international categories, where the best steaks from Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania and South America are announced.
One producer will also claim the coveted overall title of The World's Best Steak.
The winners will be announced at a special awards dinner held at Smith and Wollensky on 13 November.
“The WSC is the ultimate competition for steak producers and suppliers to showcase their product quality and breed credentials on an international stage,” says Restaurant editor Stefan Chomka.
“The importance of taste, provenance and sustainability in meat has never been greater, and this competition highlights the best producers in the business and gives them a platform to tell the world about the quality of the steaks.”
The WSC was launched in 2015 to deliver a recognised stamp of quality to support world-class steak production on a global platform.
The 2022 competition was held in Dublin, Ireland, where more than 200 medals were awarded. Last year’s overall winner was Japan-based Starzen Co, which claimed the World's Best Steak, World's Best Sirloin, and World's Best Grain-Fed titles. Other awards went to Poland’s MFC Carni, which won in the World's Best Fillet category; Linden Foods and Marks & Spencer in Northern Ireland in the World’s Best Grass-fed category; and Albers GmbH and Jack's Creek in the World’s best Rib-Eye category.
