Dmitri Magi to leave role as Claridge’s culinary director
Claridge’s confirmed that Magi would leave the top-end Mayfair hotel at the end of July, almost exactly a year after taking on the culinary director role.
"We can confirm that Dmitri Magi, Claridge’s culinary director will be leaving the hotel at the end of July 2023 to pursue new opportunities in the industry," the hotel said in a statement.
"We would like to thank Dmitri for all his hard work, creativity and dedication over the last four years and wish him all the best for the future."
Magi was previously executive chef at Claridge’s Davies and Brook restaurant, which closed at the end of 2021 after its chef patron, culinary heavyweight Daniel Humm, parted ways with the hotel following a disagreement over his desire to create a fully plant-based menu.
As part of his remit as culinary director, Magi was charged with relaunching the space that previously housed Davies and Brook, but this is yet to happen.
His appointment formed part of a major shakeup of Claridge’s F&B operations, with the Brook Street hotel also recruiting former The Goring executive chef Richard Galli and former Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester executive pastry chef to the same roles within its own kitchens at the time.
At the time of writing, Magi’s successor is yet to be confirmed.
