US fried chicken restaurant Popeyes UK is opening the doors to its first drive-thru restaurant next month.

The 104-seat restaurant will open at Parkgate Shopping Centre in Rotherham on 15 May serving its chicken-led menu that includes its chicken sandwich; and southern biscuits and gravy.

It will also serve its brand-new breakfast menu, featuring dishes including the big breakfast rolls - a sausage patty, egg, streaky bacon, and American cheese in a soft bun - a variety of sausage, bacon, egg and cheese muffins; Cajun hash browns; and buttermilk biscuits served with cinnamon sugar or Nutella.

“We’re hugely excited to be opening our first drive-thru in the UK. This is a critical format for us as we fully recognise the UK is underserved with exciting new brands opening in this space," says Popeyes CEO Tom Crowley.

"The sustained demand we are seeing for Popeyes throughout the UK is incredible, we are confident that this will only increase with the launch of our Drive-Thru restaurants of which we now have many in the pipeline for 2023 and into 2024.

Crowley told Restaurant back in February that Popeyes is on track to open several drive-thru restaurants in 2023

“We see big scope in the drive-thru space going forwards. In 2024 we expect close top half our openings to be drive-thru restaurants,” he said.

The new restaurant will bring Popeyes UK’s portfolio to 17 restaurants across the country. The group recently announced the launch of a further four London sites including Richmond, Woolwich and Kilburn, as well as its latest delivery kitchen over in Wood Green, meaning it is now available across nearly every borough of the capital.
