Warwickshire’s Pug Pubs to launch Greek restaurant in Leamington Spa
The launch of Taverna Meraki follows the success of Matt and Alex Crowther's Greek food delivery business, which was launched during the Coronavirus lockdown.
The offer will include gyros, souvlaki and a number of other ‘authentic’ Greek dishes alongside Greek beers, wines and spirits.
A former Café Rouge, the 1,553 sq ft site is in the town centre on Regent Street in a prominent location next to the entrance of Royal Priors Shopping Centre.
“I’d always had ambitions of opening some sort of Greek restaurant as I’d worked there for four years and loved the food,” Matt says.
“When we founded our first pub, The Fat Pug, we asked our friend from Greece, Yannis, to come over and work with us at the business, with the possible idea of starting a Greek restaurant at some point. Pug Pubs did very well, but when lockdown hit, we realised our pub offering did not translate well to delivery and we needed to come up with something new.”
Founded in 2012, Pug Pubs Limited operates The Royal Pug, The Fat Pug, and coffee shop Procaffeinate in Leamington Spa, The Black Pug in Warwick, and The Lazy Pug in Shipston.
Taverna Meraki is expected to launch at the end of May.
