Thai restaurant group Giggling Squid says it has had “its most profitable year since inception”, despite the ongoing disruption from the Coronavirus pandemic.

In accounts just filed at Companies House for the 52 weeks to 3 April 2022, the group saw turnover for the year soar by 94% on the previous year to £65.9m.

Profit after tax was £3.8m, compared to a figure of £845,000 in 2021.

Giggling Squid operates 43 sites under the Giggling Squid brand as well as one restaurant under its Lime Squeezy brand in Chichester. A second Lime Squeezy, located in Brighton, closed just six months after its launch.

It opened seven restaurants during the financial year in which its accounts refer to, and has since opened more venues in locations including Maidstone, Kent, and Alderley Edge.

The group says it plans to continue to expand in 2023.
