Bar Kroketa will open on Beak Street in London’s Carnaby on the former Bread Ahead site, just off Kingly Court, on 12 December and will be reminiscent of the bars which line the streets of Spain’s towns and cities, according to the group.
As its name suggests, the croqueta - the Spanish fried bechamel sauce fritter - will be the bar’s hero dish, with blackboards listing a frequently changing selection. The initial range will include sobrasada and goat’s curd with honey, girolle and pine with shaved idiazabal; a classic jamón with lardo and migas; blue cheese with crushed walnut; prawn and leek with prawn head alioli; and salt cod with txakoli verjus alioli.
The kitchen will also serve a tight selection of small plates that will change on a daily basis. Dishes will include a crab and alioli toastie; chicken livers and cider onion toast with pancetta; spiced aubergine, curd, pine nuts and salsa verde; and a lamb neck pintxo moruño marinated in kalimotxo.
Counter dishes, served from the bar, include crisps and encurtidos; tomato pickle tartar; cheese taquitos with chestnut honey and coffee; and gildas.
The drinks offer will include a range of affordable Spanish wines, sherry, vermouth, and cider as well as cocktails, including the Kalimotxo Sour – a take on an old school Basque combination of red wine and coke; and a cider-based Basque & Stormy.
