Asma Khan’s Darjeeling Express is returning to where it all began, in Soho’s Kingly Court.

The chef and restaurateur will open the latest incarnation of her Indian restaurant at the popular Soho development in the coming months just a few years after vacating it in the summer of 2020.

Taking to Instagram, she said: "We are returning to our spiritual home - and in a bigger space! This was where we began our journey five years ago - an #AllFemaleKitchen serving the food of our families. It is a joyous #Homecoming!”

Khan announced last month that she had found a new permanent home for her restaurant following the closure its Covent Garden site this summer. She says the reason for the move is to allow her all-female kitchen team to be more visible to customers.

The original Darjeeling Express opened in an upstairs location at Kingly Court in 2017 following a popular pop-up residence at London pub The Sun & 13 Cantons. It closed in 2020, following the first national Coronavirus lockdown, and later reopened on Covent Garden’s Garrick Street in a former Carluccio’s until that also closed earlier this year.
