Manchester vegan diner V-Rev announces permanent closure

Manchester-based vegan diner V-Rev has announced its permanent closure, just weeks after the business was forced to slash its opening hours due to the rising cost of utilities and stock.

The restaurant in the city's Northern Quarter confirmed on Instagram over the weekend that it would be closing its doors permanently. Its final service was yesterday (25 September).

In a statement, V-Rev said: "Unfortunately, today (25/09/22) will be our last day open.

"Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us over the past 10 years.

"The past few years with lockdown and restrictions brought us to a point where we’re not able to financially recover and stay operational.

"Obviously, this isn’t how we wanted things to end - this is now out of our hands and we’re absolutely gutted."

Founded by Dominic Moss, V-Rev served an entirely plant-based menu of traditional American-style comfort food including a range of burgers, jumbo hotdogs and loaded fries.

It also served a selection of sharer plates such as buttermilk-fried seitan chicken wings; breaded and deep fried mac and cheese balls with marinara dipping sauce; and beer-battered pickle spears, served with ranch dipping sauce.

The restaurant originally opened on Oldham Street in the Northern Quarter as V Revolution in 2012, but relocated to a larger site on Edge Street in 2016 and relaunched under the new name V-Rev.

It was named the 'Best Vegan Restaurant in the UK' at the 2016 VegFest awards in London.
