Front of house competition The Gold Service Scholarship will launch next month ahead of next year’s finals.

The competition, which is now in its 11th year, rewards service excellence but also celebrates the vital role that service plays in the broad hospitality sector.

The 2023 competition will open on 5 September 2022, with prospective candidates requested to submit their entries, and will close on 3 October. The quarter finals are due to take place at the end of October, with the semi-final to be held in late November and the final in mid-January 2023.

The winner will be presented with their award at an awards ceremony due to be held in mid-February 2023.

“So many challenges face the hospitality industry at the moment, so it is vital that we play our part in recognising and mentoring young professionals as they embrace their chosen career path,” says trustee and chairman of the judges Edward Griffiths.

“The Gold Service Scholarship takes its role very seriously as it nurtures and prepares this next generation of industry leaders.”

Last year’s winner was Thomas Gammella, restaurant manager at The Clockspire in Sherborne, Somerset, who was named scholar at an awards reception held at Claridge’s in Mayfair.

Entrants must be aged 22-28 to be eligible for the competition, which was created to improve their skills set and help them to progress in their career.
