The chef announced that a “serious fire” had started on the morning of 20 July and that the Michelin-starred restaurant would remain closed until at least 2 August.
Nobody was injured in the fire and all staff have been accounted for.
“While we are of course disappointed not to be able to welcome our guests who had plans to dine with us, we can confirm that everyone is safe and accounted for,” says Tanaka. “Sadly, it looks likely that we will be out of action for at least a couple of weeks.
The cause of the fire at the Charlotte Street restaurant is not yet known.
Customers who have booked to eat at The Ninth are being notified and the restaurant says it will reschedule reservations and “will do our best to accommodate you as soon as possible”.
