South London street food vendor Taca Tacos will open a site in Deptford Market Yard this month.

Opening on 22 July, its offer will centre on its signature beef birria - a six-hour braised brisket with a mixture of Mexican guajillo, ancho and pasilla chilies. The beef fat and chilies combine to create an oil into which corn tortillas are dipped into before being fried on a griddle with Monterey Jack cheese and chopped beef.

The tacos are then folded and filled with pink onions, coriander and homemade salsa to be dunked in the beef broth.

Also on the menu, which has been created by head chef Tung Van Fan, will be Baja fish, pimientos and a pulled shroom quesataco as well as nachos, quesadillas and Cali-style burritos.

There will also be a weekend brunch offering with burritos and tacos with the addition of eggs and crispy hash browns, along with a choice of usual fillings.

The site will have space for 20 people indoors as well as an outdoor area seating 30. It joins businesses including seafood restaurant Sharkbait & Swim, Jerk Yard, The Tapas Room, Dirty Apron, and Jars Bar London.

The move marks a return to Deptford for Taca Tacos, which launched its first pop-up in 2019 at The Greenhouse Deptford near New Cross station. It was created in 2019 by Thorne Addyman after being inspired by trips to California.
