Sessions, the group behind Brighton’s Shelter Hall food hall, is heading to London with the opening of a smaller venue in Islington.

As first spotted by Hot Dinners, the new food hall, called Sessions, will feature four concepts that will serve menus for a limited time with a rotating line-up of chefs planned.

Opening on 11 August on the former Rodizio Rico site on Islinton's Upper Street, the debut line up features chefs Hasan Semay, Jay Morjaria, Zoe Adjonyoh, and Richie Hayes and Elliot Kaye who will be bringing their respective concepts Big Has, Tiger and Rabbit, Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen, and Norman’s to the venue.

Big Has will be the first restaurant concept from Semay, who spent 10 years cooking in London restaurant kitchens and most recently amassed a loyal following for his lockdown YouTube Series ‘Sunday Sessions’. It will serve ‘no-nonsense cooking with flavours of the Mediterranean’.

Tiger and Rabbit will be the second outing for Morjaria’s modern Korean food concept, which made its debut at Brighton’s Shelter Hall. Menu items at the Brighton venue included kimchi jeon, a pancake filled with kimchi and spring onions, served with sesame sauce; and ssam baps with Korean style bbq meat and vegetables.

Adjonyoh has run her Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen for the past 12 years championing African food through supper clubs and residencies. While no menu for the concept has been released yet, it is likely to include her jollof fried chicken and plantain fries.

Hayes and Kaye are the duo behind Norman’s, a cafe which launched in London’s Tufnell Park in 2020 and which serves classic British cafe dishes inspired by their childhood favourites.

Earlier this year Sessions raised $10m (£7.3m) in Series A funding to expand the business beyond its Brighton location, saying it planned to use the investment to open two more food halls in 2022.
