The Northamptonshire pub has undergone a complete refurbishment following a £330,000 investment from Star Pubs & Bars and will relaunch offering a varied menu of Indian-inspired dishes along with popular pub favourites such as burgers, wood-fired pizzas and grills.
Shankararkrishnamurthy - who is hoping to turn the pub into a destination restaurant -was classically trained in India and spent six months at three Michelin-starred Restaurant George Blanc in Vonna, France, before going on to work at venues including Resorts World, Selfridges and Mowgli.
Hari has spent time sourcing the best produce from the local area and beyond, such as sausages from AW Lashford, meats from Clay and Smith Chefs and seafood from Flying Fish.
The team at Concept Design has given the dated interior a fresh feel, adding floral patterns, teal blue tones and copper accents ‘for a warm inviting feel’. Original features such as the parquet flooring and Elizabethan-style windows, gables and chimneys have been renovated to retain the character of the former coaching inn.
The interior space has been restructured to allow for a central bar, creating a large open space for guests and a more accessible working environment for front of house staff.
“When I first saw The George I knew it was the perfect place to open my first restaurant and I’m delighted to have the support of Star Pubs & Bars who have seen the pub’s potential to become a serious restaurant,” says Shankararkrishnamurthy.
“I know there has been a lot of love for The George in the past from local residents and those further afield and I can’t wait to open the doors and provide an experience worth waiting for.”
The George in Kilsby will officially launch on 25 July.
