Fergus Henderson and Trevor Gulliver are heading to Marylebone to open their third restaurant in the capital.

St John Marylebone will open in September and will join the duo’s existing London restaurants, St John in Smithfield and St John Bread and Wine in Shoreditch.

It will be an all-day, wine-led venue inspired by the bars of Paris and Florence that will take a similar approach as at the group’s other sites with a ‘cheeky’, menu that will evolve throughout the day.

Morning options will include bread and pastries made at St John’s bakery in Bermondsey as well as spiced granola with Neal’s Yard Dairy Yoghurt and seasonal poached fruit. Mid-morning there is the option to pair doughnuts with champagne while lunch will come in the form of a selection of small plates on a daily-changing blackboard with nods to both the bar menu at the original Smithfield restaurant and the sharing style of Bread and Wine.

The menu will be overseen by Henderson and chef director Jonathan Woolway and will have nods to the culinary luxuries Henderson enjoys, such as ‘a touch of caviar’.

The wine offer will have an emphasis on the seasonal and local and will feature St John’s notable selection of house wines from its winery in the Minervois in southwest France alongside bottles ‘reflecting longstanding relationships with generations of vignerons, new friendships with exciting new winemakers’.

St John Marylebone is: "inspired by the bars of Paris and Florence, which are all things to all people at all moments through every day - coffee and wine, tartines and three-course meals, babies and bankers,” says Gulliver.

“Each St John sings with its own voice, dictated by the environment and community in which it finds itself. This new addition to the family will provide a rolling feast of many parts, with ample good wine as you would expect”.

The new restaurant is the first restaurant project from Henderson and Gulliver since they opened a St John on Bermondsey’s Maltby Street in 2015, but which closed three years later. Following that the pair have bolstered the group’s bakery division and now operate sites in Neal’s Yard and Borough.

The group also looked at opening a restaurant in Los Angeles by the project was scrapped when Coronavirus struck.
