The chef from the Chelsea pub ands restaurant took the top spot with his ‘Golden egg’ – a Burford Brown egg encased in sausage meat and golf leaf crumb served with foie gras, truffle mayonnaise and shaved white truffle.
Second place went to Matt Sullivan, group executive chef at Young's Pubs, with Nokx Majiozi, sous chef at Holborn Dining Room taking home third place.
The winners were among 16 entrants in this year’s awards, which were held last night (20 June) at Mayfair’s The Guinea Grill and which are now in their tenth year. Others included Will Bowlby from Kricket, The Oyster Shed’s Natalie Coleman, and The Pem’s Sally Abe.
Scotch eggs were judged on the taste, texture and appearance by a panel of judges that included The Guardian’s Bob Granleese, The Telegraph’s Lisa Markwell, Fay Maschler, BigHospitality’s Stefan Chomka and Daragh Curran, AKA The Guinness Guru.
The event was hosted by The Guinea Grill’s Oisin Rogers and compered by Joe Warwick and The Evening Standard's David Ellis and is sponsored by Estrella Damm.
