Restaurateurs Nand Kishor and Sanjay Gour are taking their popular Surrey-based Indian restaurant Dastaan to Leeds for a second restaurant.

The duo will launch a restaurant in a suburb of the city, expected to open later this year.

The pair opened Dastaan in Epsom in 2017 and the restaurant has gone on to win plaudits for its authentic Indian cuisine. In its first year it was awarded a Bib Gourmand by the Michelin Guide.

Kishor and Gour opened Dastaan having both worked at high-end London Indian restaurants, including Gymkhana in Mayfair. Kishor, who was born in the foothills of the Himalayas, moved to London in 2003 and went on to work with JKS Group to open its Trishna restaurant, which received a Michelin star in 2012. In 2014 he moved to Gymkhana as its head chef, leaving to open Dastaan.

Gour, a trained pastry chef as well as contemporary Indian chef, was brought up in Mumbai but later moved to London to work with Angela Hartnett as pastry chef at her Michelin-starred restaurant, Murano.

He was later appointed head pastry chef at Corinthia Hotel and then head chef of the Tamarind Collection of restaurants before also becoming head chef at Gymkhana.

An opening date for the new restaurant is yet to be announced.
