Taking over the old Dirty Burger site, the restaurant will be markedly bigger than Black Bear Burger's original restaurant in Brixton Village with an open kitchen, cocktail bar and space for al-fresco dining in summer.
Spread over two floors, it will hold around 45 covers in total.
Black Bear Burger’s ethos is ‘simple, done well, with the group committed to only using grass fed, dry-aged British beef.
Signature menu items including the eponymous Black Bear burger made with beef, cheese, bacon, onion jam, and garlic mayo; the brisket burger featuring a beef patty, cheese, 12-hour beer-braised brisket, pink pickled onions and garlic mayo; and loaded fries with steak rub, cheese sauce and bacon crumb.
The extended Clerkenwell menu will also serve sides such as brisket spring rolls; patty melt sando; and bourbon barbecue wings.
"We’ve always loved the buzz of Exmouth Market and it has been a regular haunt of ours so we’re really excited to be opening our second restaurant here," says Stew Down, who founded Black Bear Burger with his wife, Liz.
"The feedback from our Brixton restaurant has been really positive and we plan to recreate the same vibe in Exmouth Market. We try to offer something more than your typical burger joint and knock every element out of the park, whether that’s the burgers and side dishes, our drinks offering as well as our service and restaurant atmosphere."
Black Bear Burger started out life as a food stall in Broadway Market and went on to do residencies at Street Feast and Kerb.
In 2016, Black Bear Burger launched its first permanent location at Boxpark Shoreditch; and opened its first sit-down restaurant in Brixton Village in 2019.
The Exmouth Market launch comes hot on the heels of the group opening its third London location at Market Halls Cargo in Canary Wharf.
