Robert Thompson has announced he will become chef-patron at the soon-to-open North House in Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

The chef, who was previously at Thompson’s Restaurant in Newport, revealed he was joining the Grade II listed townhouse with rooms on Instagram.

“Opening soon we can’t wait to welcome guests to North House, both old and new,” he wrote.

Boutique hotel North House will have 14 bedrooms as well as a restaurant, bar, library, garden and a residents swimming pool.

Details of the menu are yet to be revealed, but Thompson said some ‘teasers’ about the kind of food he will be serving at the restaurant will be revealed soon.

Thompson was awarded a Michelin star at The Hambrough in 2006 when he was aged just 23 and was named among Restaurant magazine’s ‘stars of the future’ back in 2009. He opened his debut solo restaurant Thompson’s in 2015.

He launched his food meal kit brand You Be Chef during lockdown.

“Thompson’s has been an incredible run, but now it’s on to the next chapter,” he wrote.

“I couldn’t be more excited to start North House as well as continue the @youbechef journey, which has kept me and the team out of trouble while growing into a flourishing new business. The past few years have been brutal for so many. I’m super thankful for having such a brilliant team, awesome guests, friends and family who’ve stood by me.”
