Darby’s and Bermondsey Larder chef Robin Gill will launch a relaxed, neighbourhood Italian restaurant in Kensington this June.

Maria G’s will be partly inspired by the former The Dairy chef’s time working in the south of Italy and his love for a particular fishing village, Marina Del Cantone, which he visits regularly with his family.

It will be Gill’s second Italian restaurant project, joining Clapham’s Sorella which the Ireland-born chef opened in 2018.

Located on the ground floor of a new development on a quiet residential street between Kensington and Earl’s Court, Maria G's Maria G’s will take inspiration from the whole of Italy's cuisine, evolving throughout the year from southern dishes in the summer to northern specialities in the winter.

Although full details are still under wraps, the menu will feature cicchetti, fresh pasta, and house cured salamis and 'comforting Italian classics', with dishes set to include Ivy house Ricotta agnolotti, wild rocket, baby purple artichoke; house-cured rosemary and Sicilian orange bresaola; and Penzance red mullet, Amalfi lemon, wild fennel aioli.

Gill’s career began in some of Europe’s best restaurants, from Marco Pierre White’s three Michelin-starred The Oak Room, to two Michelin-starred Don Alfonso 1890 on the Amalfi Coast.

Back in the UK, Gill spent four years under Raymond Blanc at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons before working at some of world’s best restaurants including Noma and Frantzén.
