From 14 March to 10 April the restaurant will serve an exclusively plant-based menu that will feature meat-free versions of its signature burgers - to coincide with the refurbishment of the West End restaurant.
The restaurant has undergone extensive redesign and transformation, including a new shop front and signage, the addition of 12 digital ordering kiosks as well as digital menu boards, and a remodelled kitchen. The site was acquired by Burger King UK in May 2021 as part of the consolidation of sub-franchisee Zing.
Menu items will include its Plant-based Whopper and Vegan Royale as well as more than 15 new items, including a Cheeeze & Bakon burger, and and Vegan Cheeeze & Bakon Royale.
The fast food giant’s new limited-edition plant-based and vegan Katsu range will also be served, including a Vegan Katsu Royale, Plant-based Katsu Chilli Whopper, and Katsu nuggets as well as Ben & Jerry’s Cookie on Cookie Dough non-dairy ice cream as a dessert.
The meat-free off is part of Burger King UK’s commitment to offer a 50% meat-free menu by 2030.
“We’re incredibly proud of our new meat-free menu; it absolutely delivers on big taste with no compromises and reflects our ongoing commitment to serving our customers a diverse and innovative range of products,” says Burger King marketing director Katie Evans.
“We can’t think of a more fitting way to re-launch our new-look flagship in Leicester Square.”
The company is using the month-long vegan popup as a test bed for its plant-based menu items and says it will look at rolling the most popular dishes out across its restaurant estate in the future.
“The launch of our meat-free menu is an exciting campaign that recognises customers’ growing desires for flexitarian and meat-free alternatives. It is a great way to re-launch our flagship restaurant in Leicester Square, which has undergone extensive redesign and transformation work over the last few months, demonstrating our commitment to offering consumers a truly diverse menu for any appetite or occasion," says Alasdair Murdoch, CEO at Burger King UK.
"Our new menu items are incredibly innovative and a testament to Burger King UK’s commitment to achieving our target of a 50% meat-free menu by 2030; and the launch is another positive step in reducing our carbon emissions to further our ambition in becoming a more responsible and sustainable business.”
