Pizza Pilgrims is eyeing its first Brighton location, suggesting the group may be preparing to explore more opportunities for regional expansion.

The group, which operates 18 restaurants in the UK all but one of which are located in London, submitted a premises license to take over the former ProCook retail site on Ship Street in the centre of the city in November last year.

It has since been granted.

Last year, Pizza Pilgrims managing director Gavin Smith said the brand had decided to delay some its more regional expansion ambitions until 2022.

Its only previous venture outside of the capital came in 2017 when it launched a restaurant at the Westgate Centre in Oxford.

During the pandemic, Pizza Pilgrims has focused on further growing its London estate, opening a number of restaurants under its core brand including, most recently, an ‘eco-friendly’ restaurant within Selfridges department store.

The group has also launched Slice, a New York pizza-by-the-slice concept that currently has a permanent site in Finsbury Park and a concession at Swingers West End, and won the Scalable Concept Award at last year's R200 Restaurant Awards.

Elsewhere, it has spent time establishing its Pizza in the Post meal kits, which are available for delivery nationwide via Ocado or the Pizza Pilgrims website.

Pizza Pilgrims was founded in 2012 by brothers James and Thom Elliot.
