Suffolk-based restaurant Gastrono-me is doubling its presence with the launch of a second restaurant this spring.

The group, founded by Gemma and Mike Simmonite in Bury St Edmunds in 2011, has taken on the former Bella Italia site on Cambridge’s Bridge Street for its second venue, which will open in March.

The 2,500sq ft, 130-cover restaurant will serve an all-day offer with a breakfast menu of a bagel tower layered with cured salmon, herbed cream cheese and potato rösti; its signature soufflé egg wedge; and organic dark chocolate porridge rolled oats mixed with chocolate and topped with chia seeds, berries and nuts.

Favourite dishes from the Bury St Edmunds restaurant will also feature, including the Slumdog Grillionaire made with rarebit, topped with a fried egg; vegan tempura beer-battered avocado tacos with corn salsa, pink pickled onions, and chipotle crema; bao buns with Korean braised brisket or marinated shiitake; and pain perdu topped with maple syrup and clotted cream.

A bottomless brunch will run every day from 10am-2pm and children’s menus and takeaway will also be available.

“We love the historic market town feel we have in Bury St Edmunds, and Cambridge holds that same charm but on a city level. It’s the perfect setting for the next stage of our adventure and we’re so excited to become part of the city’s buzzing restaurant culture,” says Gemma.

The new opening is part of an expansion drive for the business, with further sites being sought in similar locations including Brighton, Oxford, Cheltenham, Reading, Bath and Cardiff.
