London street food trader Ugly Dumpling is to open a second restaurant early next month on Rathbone Place in Fitzrovia.

The new site will be much larger than the brand's original Carnaby restaurant, which launched back in 2017.

With space for up to 60 diners, Ugly Dumpling Fitzrovia will include a bar counter and 'boxed off, semi-private space' for larger groups of up to eight.

Ugly Dumpling is led by founder Ping Wong in collaboration with investment partner Philipp Chaykin, and serves a menu of 'global fusion' dumplings that combine traditional Asian recipes with western ingredients.

This includes a range of classic dumplings such as aromatic duck, and pork belly; as well as 'new favorites' such as Thai green curry, cheeseburger, and pizza margherita.

There's also a short range of sides served, like tempura aubergine with a golden syrup dressing and peanuts; and a daikon salad with coriander and Vietnamese dressing.

“Our Fitzrovia restaurant is the next step in Ugly Dumpling’s expansion, giving us a chance to extend our partnership with Shaftesbury, our landlord in Carnaby," says Chaykin.

"Naturally, we are concerned about the new Covid restrictions that might come into force but we won’t allow them to derail us from our planned opening and look forward to sharing many delicious dumplings with those in the area."

Before launching its Carnaby restaurant, Ugly Dumpling traded at a number of street food spots across London including Spitalfields Market and Startisans in Covent Garden.
