Simon Martin's Manchester restaurant Mana, The Forest Side in Cumbria, and Tuddenham Mill in Suffolk all received four AA Rosettes at a virtual ceremony this morning.

The latest announcement by the AA also saw 16 restaurants awarded three rosettes including several notable London restaurants such as Mexican chef Santiago Lastra’s Kol in London's Marylebone; Anna Haugh's Irish influenced Myrtle in Chelsea; The Grill at The Dorchester, which is led by Tom Booton; and gastropub The Princess of Shoreditch, where Ruth Hansom has been based since last year.

Outside of London, new Glaswegian dining destination Unalome by Graeme Cheevers also recieved three rosettes; as did French bistro L’Ortolan in Shinfield, Berkshire.

“As the hospitality sector reopens after a challenging year, it is an honour to be able to recognise those restaurants achieving the highest levels of gastronomic excellence," says Simon Numphud, managing director at AA Media.

"All 2021 Rosette winners deserve to be celebrated, with each one demonstrating the exceptional culinary standards being offered to diners across the country.”

Establishments with three AA Rosettes are all outstanding restaurants achieving standards which demand national recognition well beyond their local area, while those awarded four AA Rosettes are considered among the top restaurants in the country.

“We are absolutely delighted to receive four AA Rosettes and would like to extend our appreciation for the recognition," says Alasdair Elwick, general manager at The Forest Side.

"The past few years have been a roller-coaster and our team have taken each hurdle in their stride and it’s great to see their hard work being recognised.”

Now in its 65th year, AA Rosettes have been awarded to restaurants since 1956, with the top award of five Rosettes being introduced in 1991. The allocation of multi-Rosettes is determined by one or more visits by an AA inspector to a hotel or restaurant.

The announcement of the latest AA Rosette winners accompanies the release of The Restaurant Guide 2022 tomorrow (28 October).
