Natalia Ribbe and Jackson Berg are to relocate their Margate restaurant Barletta to a new seafront home later this month.

The restaurant, which has been based in Margate’s Dreamland for the past two years, will move to a new all-day dining space within the Turner Contemporary art gallery.

Berg, a former chef at pop-up restaurant Xiringuito, and Ribbe, founder of Ladies of Restaurants, opened Barletta in June 2019 as a celebration of their travels and favourite places to eat, taking inspiration from Sicily, Los Angeles, Berlin and Marseille. It is named after a small seaside town in Puglia.

The new restaurant will have a communal dining format by day turning into a more intimate restaurant in the evening. All-day menu items homemade cakes and pastries made by pastry Chef Emma Tillyer, crispy fried chicken sandwich with melted cheese, fries and pickles; Italian sausage ragu with handmade tagliatelle, broccoli and white wine ragu; and Gorgonzola risotto with walnuts and egg yolk.

The dinner menu will feature starters including oysters; truffled mushroom and Coolea gougeres and anchovies, ricotta and shallot toast; steak tartare with bone marrow and parsley butter toast; spiced carrots, with yoghurt, hazelnuts, parsley oil; and confit cod cheeks with sweetcorn, brown butter and chives.

Mains on the launch menu will include Swaledale lamb shoulder ragu served with cavatelli, parmesan and breadcrumbs; red-legged partridge with crab apple jelly, parfait, dripping toast and watercress; monkfish with spinach in a brown butter sauce; salt baked celeriac with caramelised cauliflower squash seeds and wonky parsnip farm salad; and grilled Dexter onglet for two served with pommes aligot and peppercorn sauce.

The wine list will focus on regions in and around the Mediterranean with natural, bio dynamic options as well as more classic varieties.

“Following the success of our summer roof top pop-up, we felt it was the right time to root ourselves in the community even more.,” says Ribbe.

“Jackson and I love everything about the vibe and scene in Margate. Setting up shop within the beautiful Turner Contemporary in such a prime seafront location was the perfect opportunity for us to share everything we love about food and drink with the local community and visitors alike. We can’t wait to open our doors and welcome guests to our new home!”
