In an update on its website, the theatrical teppanyaki-style brand confirmed the Sackville Street restaurant had its final service yesterday (10 October).
It said: "After more than 27 years as a popular feature on the London restaurant scene, Benihana, the iconic Teppanyaki restaurant, closes its doors for the last time on Sunday 10th October before moving to a new home in Maiden Lane, Covent Garden in Spring 2022."
Benihana's sister site on King's Road in Chelsea will continue to operate.
Back in 2016, Benihana revealed plans to expand across the UK, which eventually led to the launch of its first site outside of the capital in Glasgow, Scotland.
However, that restaurant subsequently closed after just seven months of trading, blaming a 'depression' impacting the UK high street.
Since then the group has made no further attempts to expand on British shores.
Benihana was founded in 1964 by the late wrestler Hiroaki ‘Rocky’ Aoki in New York, and popularised the playful teppanyaki cooking style.
The group operates or franchises restaurants across the globe including in Mexico, Canada, Romania, Lebanon, Thailand and Indonesia.
