Rocket power: Burger King launches premium burger range

Burger King has decided that rocket is what has so far been missing from the premium burger category, and has thus addressed this with its new range of premium burgers.

The fast food giant is launching The Gourmet Kings Range, comprising two burgers made using more premium ingredients, following what it says has been a year of development work.

The Argentinian burger is a beef patty with sliced onions, crispy onions, fresh rocket, British and Irish oak smoked cheddar cheese, chilli sauce, and chimichurri mayo, in a lightly toasted brioche bun. The steakhouse features the same patty, made from British and Irish Aberdeen Angus beef with sliced tomatoes, crispy onions, fresh rocket, smoked cheddar, sweet crispy bacon slices, mayonnaise and BBQ sauce, also in a brioche bun.

The burgers will be available in restaurants and for delivery nationwide from 11 October 2021 but can be ordered before this via the Burger King app, where they are currently priced at around £7 including free regular fries and drink.

“Our new Gourmet Kings collection has been in development for over a year. We took the time to create and source the perfect ingredients to complement and elevate our flame-grilled, 100% Aberdeen Angus beef,” says Katie Evans, chief marketing Officer at Burger King UK.

Burger King is not the first of the US fast food giants to try and tempt customers with a more premium – and expensive – burger. In 2015 McDonald’s launched The Signature Collection, a three-strong range of thicker beef patties served in a brioche-style bun. None of the burgers contained rocket, but one – The BBQ – did feature coleslaw.

The burger range was eventually dropped by McDonald’s in 2019 following a slow down in sales.
