The Borough Yards site, which is located two minutes’ walk from Borough Market, will be the first south-east London location for Barrafina and also for Parrillan, the concept where diners cook their own ingredients over a table grill which launched in Coal Drop’s Yard in 2019.
Barrafina Borough Yards will have 32 covers round a marble bar as well as a bookable 16-cover private dining room and 16 covers at tall tables overlooking the bar. The menu, led by executive chef Angel Zapata-Martin, will follow the format of the existing Barrafina main menus, with their classic Spanish tapas dishes plus some new plates unique to the restaurant.
Parrillan Borough Yards will offer para picar menu of seafood, meat and vegetables, cooked by the guests over mini parrilla grills on their table.
Bar Daskal will be a Spanish wine and sherry bar serving cold tapas dishes. The bar is named after owners Sam, Eddie and James Hart’s grandfather Vladimir Daskalof, a Bahaus artist, Ballearic painter, sculptor, designer and sailor who worked under the name ‘Daskal.’ The design of the space will be inspired by Daskalof and his wife Helen’s house the Mallorcan village of Estellencs and its surrounding area and will showcase a rare permanent exhibition of Daskal’s artworks, which have largely been in private collections until now.
“My love of Spain and its cuisine began as a child in the house my grandfather built in the small village of Estellencs. Even though Barrafina was largely modelled on Barcelona’s Cal Pep, the legacy of C’an Daskal has been an ever-present influence throughout my career,” says co-founder Sam Hart.
“It is wonderful to honour these memories by bringing Bar Daskal, Barrafina and Parrillan south of the river.”
The restaurants will join fried chicken burger specialist Butchies at Borough Yards, which has chosen the location in which to open its ninth restaurant.
