Benugo is launching a new incubation scheme aimed at 'supporting the growth and development' of small hospitality operators.

Based at the group's BFI Stephen Street site, the initiative will kick off with a month-long pop up run by Cardiff-based ramen brand Matsudai Ramen.

The scheme is specifically targeted at smaller hospitality brands looking to grow and Benugo says it is open to approaches from businesses looking to to take part in the future.

Founded by James Chant in 2019, Matsudai Ramen has previously operated pop ups and residencies across the Welsh capital and in London.

It also offers DIY meal kits that are available for delivery nationwide.

"We can’t wait for this collaboration with Matsudai to start," says Shane Kavanagh, commercial director at Benugo.

"James and the team make the most incredible ramen, and it’s great to be able to help them bring it to London.

"Our partnership is about more than hosting a pop-up, we are committed to helping and supporting James in every way we can to grow and develop his business, and we hope this is the first of many partnerships we’ll see at the beautiful BFI Stephen Street space."

Matsudai Ramen's London menu will include a ‘iekei-inspired’, Yokohama-style tonkotsu ramen made in collaboration with Malaysian comedian Nigel Ng featuring pork and chicken bone soup, shoyu tare, garlic and spring onion 'schmaltz',  iekei-inspired noodles, chashu pork belly, spinach, nori and egg.

"We have many loyal Matsudai fans in London, but most of them have only tried our ramen at home via the DIY kits we sell; it's great to have the opportunity to serve them in person instead," says Chant.

"Our last pop-up in London was short and sweet at only a couple of days long, so we’re very excited to be coming back and collaborating once more with the brilliant teams at Benugo and BFI on an extended residency at this beautiful venue."
