Jamie Oliver eyes restaurant return
Speaking to the Radio Times, Oliver said he was biding his time, but definitely planned to make further forays into the restaurant business in the future.
“I’m watching for now, but I’ll definitely get back in the game,” he said.
Jamie Oliver’s UK restaurant group fell into administration back in 2019, which led to the collapse of the chef’s nationwide Jamie’s Italian chain, as well as his Barbecoa and Fifteen restaurants in London.
His other Fifteen restaurant in Cornwall subsequently closed later that year, bringing to an end Oliver's restaurant presence on the high street.
Now the chef’s name only exists in the UK as part of the portfolio of restaurants and cafes in airports, which are run by SSP.
He also has an expanding international restaurant arm that operates sites under franchise across the globe.
Following the collapse of his UK restaurant group, Oliver spoke of his sadness at having to close his non-profit Fifteen restaurant, which ran apprenticeships for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
At the time he vowed to resurrect the project in another form, a plan that appears to remain undented.
He told the Radio Times: “We’ve got some exciting ideas for Fifteen to reimagine itself."
