Gladwin brothers Richard and Oliver are set to open their fifth London restaurant next month in Richmond.

Called The Fat Badger, it will be 'built on the principles of sustainability' and offer 'a distinctive take on traditional British dining'.

As well as a dining room, the restaurant will have a saloon bar serving its own small plates menu.

Ingredients will be sourced directly from the Gladwins’ family farm and often foraged from the lands surrounding their vineyard in West Sussex. Also supplying the kitchen will be local suppliers handpicked by chef-patron Oliver Gladwin.

The main menu will be predicated around fillets of meat and fish cooked on the grill, accompanied by fresh vegetables and foraged herbs. British sharing specials will line the blackboards each evening and include whole steamed fish; a 'signature' stargazy pie; and prime cuts of Sussex simmental beef.

In the bar, the menu will include Portland crab crumpets; Maldon oysters; and local charcuterie with house pickles, homemade crackers and British cheeses.

The wine list will feature the Gladwin family’s own range of English wines, as well as a range of labels from other 'like-minded' producers.

“We are delighted to be moving into another London neighbourhood, this time in an area that my family and I call home," says Richard.

"The pandemic has further proved that local is sustainable and this is how we intend to foster growth in our business and the communities surrounding it.

"We look forward to a long, successful relationship with Richmond and its locals – creating a hub for people to enjoy the taste of modern Britain with great food, and fine wine in the company of friends and family.”

The Gladwin brothers opened their first London restaurant, The Shed , in Notting Hill in 2012. They followed that with Rabbit on the Kings Road in 2014; Nutbourne in Battersea in 2016; and Sussex in Soho in 2019.
