Harden's announces 2021 London Restaurant Awards winners
Elizabeth Haigh, Tom Aikens, Sollip’s Woongchul Park and Bomee Ki, Alexis Gauthier, and Kate Nicholls were among the winners at the Harden’s 2021 London Restaurant Awards.

Haigh’s Borough Market restaurant Mei Mei was named winner in the Best Street Food category while Aikens’ Belgravia restaurant Muse won the Top Gastronomic Experience award, beating off competition from Clare Smyth’s Core.

Husband and wife team Woongchul Park and Bomee Ki saw their London Bridge restaurant Sollip named as Top Newcomer with Alexis Gauthier claiming top spot in the Top Vegetarian or Vegan category for the second year running, this time for his recently-opened 123V in Mayfair.

Kate Nicholls, UKHospitality chief executive, took home the Harden’s Outstanding Achievement award, the first time the award hasn’t gone to a chef or restaurateur.

The awards are based on nominations from Harden’s annual survey of UK restaurant-goers with 3,000 people contributing 30,000 nominations within the categories specified by Harden’s.

Other winners included The Canton Arms for Best Bar & Pub; Galvin La Chapelle for The Best for Business; Noble Rot Soho for Most Interesting Wine List; Andy Beynon’s Behind for Top Fish & Seafood; The Delaunay for Best Breakfast; and Camberwell’s Silk Road for Top Cheap Eat.

“After the extreme challenges of the pandemic, it is a joy to be able to gather London’s top chefs and restaurateurs again and to celebrate their successes,” says Peter Harden, co-founder of Harden’s.

“The last year was tougher for the London Restaurant trade than any in history. It has been inspiring to watch the resilience and creativity of the trade in the face of such a challenge. And it is in this context that Kate Nicholls is such an appropriate winner for our Outstanding Achievement Award for the superb way she has spoken for the industry.”
