London-based ramen restaurant chain Tonkotsu will launch its latest restaurant in Kentish Town next month.

It will be the group's 15th opening, and its first outpost in north London.

The bulk of Tonkotsu's London estate is currently concentrated in central and south London. It also operates a permanent regional site in Brighton, which opened earlier this summer; and a concession in Selfridge’s food hall in Birmingham.

Menu options at Tonkotsu's Kentish Town restaurant will be broadly similar to that found at the group's other restaurants, and include the brand’s signature tonkotsu ramen featuring a pork and lardo broth with thin-cut noodles, and topped with roast pork belly, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, spring onions, burnt garlic oil and a seasoned egg.

Other popular dishes include the chilli chicken ramen; vegan mushroom miso ramen; chicken kara-age; and varieties of gyoza such as classic pork, ginger and garlic, as well as king prawn, and shiitake and ginger.

A short drinks menu includes sake made specially for the group by the Tsuji Brewery in Okayama, and a new Minkan Shimoda Pale Ale made in collaboration with Thornbridge.

Tonkotsu was launched in Soho in 2012 by co-founders Ken Yamada and Emma Reynolds, and in 2019 secured a £5m investment from YFM Equity Partners.

At the time Yamada said the partnership would allow the brand to grow and enable them to open a handful more sites.

The group previously also ran high-end Asian concept Anzu in London’s St James’ Market development.
