The pizza restaurant group’s ‘at home’ DIY pizza kits will be available to buy online at Ocado from tomorrow (20 August).
Pizza Pilgrims’ Pizza in the Post business was launched as a result Coronavirus pandemic temporarily forcing it to close it 15-strong group of pizzerias and became one of the industry success stories during lockdown. The kits comprise 48-hour proved dough, pots of crushed Italian tomatoes, fior di latte mozzarella, fresh basil and other toppings with customers encouraged to cook the pizzas using a frying pan.
Ocado will stock both of Pizza Pilgrims’ top-selling kits: the classic margherita, and double pepperoni and spicy honey.
“We expected a few people who knew our London pizzerias might be interested, but we’ve been so amazed at how many people from Scotland all the way down to Exeter have discovered the brand through our kits,” says co-founder James Elliot.
Earlier this year steakhouse group Hawksmoor signed a deal with Ocado to sell its steaks online. The Hawksmoor range includes seven steaks including individual prime cuts such as ribeye, sirloin, rump and fillet and larger cuts such as prime rib, porterhouse and T-bone.
“Working with a business such as Ocado that has a commitment to high-quality products, sustainability and unbeatable service is a great match for us,” says Pizza Pilgrims managing director Gavin Smith. “We’re so excited for this step in our core goal of being at the forefront of great pizza in the UK.”
