The Lancashire restaurant with rooms was crowned the best restaurant in the UK at the awards ceremony, which was held tonight (16 August) at The Stratford hotel in London.
It is the second time the restaurant has claimed the top spot. Moor Hall was named National Restaurant of the Year in 2019 and was the current holder of the accolade before this year’s awards following the event taking a year out because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The restaurant, which also holds two Michelin stars, is known for its highly-creative cooking with many ingredients grown in the five acres of gardens. The beautiful glass-fronted restaurant has an open kitchen as well as a walk-in cheese room, where diners are encouraged to visit to make their selection. The restaurant makes its own charcuterie in house and uses honey from its five beehives.
Tom Kerridge was also recognised at the awards for the work he has done over the past 18 months. The Hand & Flowers chef-patron was awarded an Outstanding Contribution award by helping create the invaluable charity Meals From Marlow which has so far raised more than £180,000 to help feed NHS staff and people in need. Kerridge was also recognised with his work with footballer Marcus Rashford in campaigning to end child food poverty.
Other recipients at this year’s awards include Andrew Wong, who has been named Chef of the Year, and Tom Booton who was named Chef to Watch. Tommy Banks has been named Restaurateur of the Year.
The Estrella Damm National Restaurants awards are based on votes cast by chefs, restaurateurs and food writers. To see the full list of the UK’s top 100 Restaurants visit: https://www.nationalrestaurantawards.co.uk/
